Zuerich - 07/13/2006 - 07/15/2006

On Thursday I took the train to Zuerich. Although it is only a little over 2 hours from my hometown I have never really visited this city. Many people say it is a very beautiful town, it is definitely probably the most expensive city in the world. Earlier on my trip I met my friend Philippe (who moved from San Francisco to Zuerich) and his girl friend in Freiburg. They were so kind to meet me half way when I was not able to drive. Unfortunately they were on vacation this time around.
My friends Juergen and Henry (Henriette) moved from San Francisco to Zuerich about 5 years ago. I went to University in Munich with Juergen, actually met him in the French course in preparation for a study year in France. While Juergen and Henry lived in SF I was still residing back east (Philadelphia) and only for a short time we enjoyed the city together. Finally after more than 5 years I managed to visit them. They live in an absolutely spectacular house close to the Zuerich Lake with their daughters Ella and Leni. It was two wonderful days of catching up, swimming in the lake, a little sight seeing and just enjoying the beautiful weather and each others company. Friday night we went to Zuerich downtown. We only had little time to walk around, but it was enough to get a feel for the beauty of the old town. Guess what? ....... banks everywhere :-)
On Saturday morning I took the train back to Lahr.

Juergen and myself enjoying a beautiful afternoon on the roof deck.

Myself on the roof deck, Lake Zuerich in the back drop.

An old cruise ship entertaining tourists on Lake Zuerich.

A very nice "Biergarten" where we had lunch right on the lake.

Juergen, Henry, Leni (on papa's shoulder) and Ella.
