Argentina - Impressions from Buenos Aires La Boca

La Boca is a neighborhood, or barrio of the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires. It retains a strong European flavour, with many of its early settlers being from the Italian city of Genoa. After a lengthy general strike, La Boca seceded from Argentina in 1882, and the rebels raised the Genoese flag, which was immediately torn down personally by then President Julio Argentino Roca. It is known throughout the sporting world as the home of Boca Juniors, one of South America's top football clubs. Other attractions include the La Ribera theatre, many tango clubs and Italian taverns, as well as La Bombonera, home of Boca Juniors. Caminito, La Boca.

La Boca is a very poor neighborhood. The "touristy" area pf Camenito is only about 2 or three blocks, then it is quickly over with the nice buildings and the poverty is pretty visible. La Boca is also considered one of the less safe areas of Baires. The poverty also leads to the fact that it has also been a centre for radical politics, having elected the first socialist member of Argentine Congress (Alfredo Palacios in 1935) and been home to many demonstrations during the crisis of 2001. Argentina's mix of cultures: Argentine, Spanish and Italian flags painted on the wall of a Boca house.

Colorful painted houses dominate the touristy area of Camenito.

Don´t you love the colours .....

.... and more colors.

A view of one of the three main shopping streets in Camenito. Lots of folks trying to get your attention and lure you into the shops to buy whatever stuff they are selling, leather goods, tango memorabilia, art ...

One of the moments when you wish for a good camera .... great corner house with awesome colors.

I just fell in love with these colorfully painted houses .... you now my passion for bright colors, don't you?
