From our hostel we had to climb our first smaller hill. From there we had this incredible view of the valley.

Better get used to the fact that there are plenty of pictures of nature, waterfalls, glaciers and snow covered mountains. I just try to describe the amazing landscape we experienced.

Climbing to the base of Mount Fitz Roy was not an easy task. It was a fairly smooth hike for quite some time, but in the end we had to climb several hundreds of meters of elevation difference in 45 minutes ..... ppppuuuuuhhhhhh. However we got rewarded on our way up by this amazing view of the valley below.
Finally huffing and puffing we reached the base (well almost). The picture does not show the wind .... it was howling at about 120 to 130 km/h and honestly almost blew me off the mountain. I was shocked .... several times I got almost knocked of my feat by the wind. In Any case I managed to stand still and take this photo of Mount Fitz Roy.

To reach "Lagunas de las tres" we had to cross this snow field and then climb the ridge in the background. We really tried hard, at times on all fours, but the wind was so strong that we did not dare to cross over the ridge. It was close to impossible to get up and leave our shelter behind a big bolder to make the final push. We decided to be smart and not take any huge risks. Coming back down it was treacherous because of the slippery ice and gravel and the heavy wind pushing from behind.

Once we made it back to the valley safely we decided to push it a little further and to try for the next glacier (another 4 hours round trip). I was already pretty exhausted but Torsten convinced me that we should try. We almost reached our point of return that we set ourselves when we got to the "entry" of the glacier field, covered with huge boulders. Crossing through this field of boulders, climbing one after the other, balancing around the tops cost all my remaining energy.

Well, I got rewarded with this amazing view of the glacier, however I was wondering how I would make it back, I just wanted to sit down and not move anymore. Thank god I found some sweets in my backpack that restored my energy a little and I could make it back to the trail and even back down the mountain.

I was hiking and suddenly had this urge to turn around ... and there was Mount Fitz Roy calling me one more time ..... "Take another photo of me, I am so beautiful" .... could I resist?

Back in the valley, walking through this simple gate meant a lot to me that day. 12 hours of strenuous hiking ..... but it was worth all the hurt.
