On the second day we tried the hike to the Torres base to get a good view of the "Tres Torres", the famous mountain group of the "Torres del Paine". I was hiking with a French guy from Strasbourg that I was sharing a room with. We met the night before in the common area drinking beer and only realized later that we were bunk mates. He spoke fluent Spanish, German and English .... wow.

The hike was starting slow, but soon got more and more challenging, especially when we hiked up this steep valley, fighting against the howling wind that made it really difficult to progress. Especially around this area of land slides it was quite challenging to balance the very narrow path and pushing against the wind. Nevertheless we made good progress and soon reached the "Refugio Chileno", where we stopped for a quick break.

This creek was flowing down the valley, it seemed harmless, but you could see the damage the water has done further down, probably when it had rained hard or after the snow was melting.

A small waterfall coming down this steep, bare rock. Not sure where the water comes from. On our return the stream was much stronger due to the heavy rain.

After an extremely difficult climb we reached the "Torres Base". It was raining cats and dogs, the wind was howling and it was just freezing cold. To top it all off we could not see anything. Very disappointing after all our hard work.
At least we got a nice view from the top on our way back down. Suddenly the clouds left as quickly as they have arrived and provided at least clear skies facing east.
