Argentina - Patagonia - The end of the world .... The prison

On October 31st I had about half a day in Ushuaia before my departure to Calafate. I had heard good things about the prison and maritime museum and thought I'll give it a try. It was really worth it. The maritime museum provided a good over view of the maritime history of the area and the prison museum really provided an excellent impression about the life in prison in those days. I actually read that Carlos Gardel (the tango legend) was a "guest" here for about 2 years.

The hall way leading to the small cells. This is the area that was not renovated, so everything is pretty much how it was left. Pretty chilly temperatures.

Just to give you a feeling for the size of the cell. Not much moving around.

The prison had its own train line to the quarry and forest. This is one of the old engines.
